Some artwork by an abolitionist has caused a bit of a kerfuffle on Facebook that is worth documenting here. These things have a way of resurrecting at a later date when you have forgotten the details, so it’s good to have things organized in one place. And as with any agitation event, the reactions are often very illuminating and this event does not disappoint in that regard.
It is also necessary to document these things because Abby deletes all comments on her page that oppose her and then bans the person from commenting anymore. While she is free to run her page as she sees fit, it creates a safe echo chamber where the other side never has an opportunity to give the full story.
Here’s how things began. Abolitionist and Texas artist Cheryl Cali made a graphic that was quite unsettling for many exposing the idolatry and hypocrisy of Abby Johnson.
For information on Abby’s role in opposing abortion abolition, please check out my article on how Abby is an enemy of abolition. As far as the rest of rest of the image, Cheryl actually explained the imagery on a Facebook post. I will quote just a portion of the explanation and include her diagrams:
“Abby Johnson is an unashamedly outspoken devout papist, claiming to hold to and deferring to the teachings and doctrines of the roman catholic church. This would include the veneration and idolatry of the virgin of Guadalupe for indulgences and intercession. She makes much of conversion to Catholicism and its role in the fight in abortion… And like all idolaters, putting their trust in those idols, Abby becomes like them blind, deaf, dumb and impotent. This is why she was rendered in my drawing of the virgin of Guadalupe. The drawing was intentionally dark, grotesque and satanic looking to emphasize the demonic practice of idolatry and veneration of the virgin of Guadalupe. And like this idol, Abby is impotent in the war against the culture of death. She expresses this in her hatred for the preaching of the gospel of Jesus Christ, trust in His providence and in her opposition to laws of equal justice and the criminalization of abortion.”
Not surprisingly, this image did not go over well with Abby or her followers.
Whatever you make think of the artwork or the wisdom of exposing evil in this way, I hope you will recognize the idolatry and dark hearts that were exposed in the replies of Abby and her followers on her Facebook post. This will mostly be a screenshot dump as I think the images speak for themselves.
The Idolatry Of Abby and Her Followers
Some Protestants seemed confused and missed the point of the image, but Abby’s Catholic followers completely understood it.
The Mocking of Abby and Her Followers
Remember, Abby is trying to portray herself as the sweet little victim of this artwork, but we will see how she turns on the husband of the artist and continues to lie about her efforts to oppose abolition in Texas. Out of the abundance the heart her mouth speaks.
Let me jump in here and explain that Pastor Cali was saved by God’s grace at a later age from paganism. His tattoos, implants, and piercings were all gotten before he came to Christ. He has been asked before why he doesn’t change his appearance and his answer was that it would cost a lot of money and he would rather spend the money spreading the gospel.
Let me also say, that the idea that someone’s appearance has anything to do with their salvation is anti-gospel. God is saving people from every tongue, tribe, and nation – it’s ridiculous to think that people should get plastic surgery to fit some sort of visual model. I find Cali’s appearance to be a beautiful reminder of what Christ saved him from and an amazing testimony of God’s grace. But idolaters don’t see that.
The Lies and the AHA label
Abby likes to call every abolitionist “AHA”, which she then portrays as an extremist group. I think the singular label just makes it easier for her to create a bogeyman. She calls Cali a leader in AHA and says that he “wrote a book for them” – really, he is just a well-respected abolitionist and Reformed Baptist pastor who wrote an amazing book exposing the secular foundations of the pro-life movement.
Abby and her husband (Doug on Tap) claimed this was on the AHA webpage, but it never was. Even when corrected she refused to listen. Of course, most people who tried to comment truth were deleted and blocked.
And here Abby continues to try and hide her opposition to the Texas abolition bill HB896. She likes to say she didn’t “actively oppose” it, yet here is a graphic that was put out by her own ministry influencing people against the bill.
Again, for proof of how she opposed the Texas abolition bill check out this article HERE.
Our Lady of Guadalupe and Catholic Idolatry
Mary in general, and Our Lady of Guadalupe (OLOG) in particular, is invoked by Catholics against abortion. At the death mill where I go, a picture of OLOG is on display. Once even, the Catholics brought out a 6 foot wooden canvas with OLOG on it and stood around praying to it.
Additionally, the rosary is a consistent tool used by Roman Catholics outside of death mills, especially with groups like 40 Days. The prayers of the rosary are primarily to Mary. We cannot fight the evil of abortion with idolatry.
“The image of Our Lady of Guadalupe which converted the Aztecs has been replicated and travels the United States on an explicit mission to end abortion. It is carried into Churches and it is brought in front of abortion clinics nationwide. I have been with the image many times in these settings… Our Lady of Guadalupe has been declared the ‘Patroness of the Unborn.’ They will be saved by the message of hope she brings, and by the message of concrete charity with which she challenges the Church.”Frank Pavone of Priests for Life
“Against the darkness of this era, we at Human Life International cry out for the assistance and protection of Our Lady of Guadalupe…Only by imitating Our Lady’s respect for life from the moment of conception can we hope to inherit Life itself. Under the gentle direction of the Patroness of the Unborn, we find not only shelter and rest, but confidence and strength to go forth to battle the evil. Through her intercession we can expect tremendous miracles…Only through the heart of a Mother so benevolent and powerful can we hope to achieve our ends.”Paul Marx, Founder of Human Life International
